Roselle History Museum

Located at 39 E Elm St, Roselle, IL 60172, the Roselle History Museum is a great place to learn about the early days of the town. The town prospered in its early years. Its main occupation was farming. The people raised cattle and dairy products. Because the town was located in a large meadow surrounded by wilderness, there was a lot of wildlife in the area. The Roselle History Museum is housed in a historic building that is still used to host special events. The museum’s original building was constructed in 1847 and is considered one of the earliest structures in Schaumburg. The church is named after the pastor of the town, Francis Hoffman. He moved here from Bensenville in Wisconsin to serve as the town’s first pastor. The Hoffman family was a prominent local businessman who served as the Illinois Lieutenant Governor, owned an experimental farm in Wisconsin, and edited a German-language agricultural newspaper.

The Roselle History Museum also includes the community’s oldest Christian church. The church was built in 1847 and had German services as late as 1970. The town was incorporated in 1956. The early residents came from Bonn, Germany and other parts of the eastern United States. Many of them were from the princely state of Schaumburg-Lippe. The population of Schaumburg grew from thirteen to 68 thousand people in 1990. While there are a number of historic sites in the town, the population remained relatively stable.
